Assimilation has never been my style.
Quite frankly,
I’d rather be what God intended me to be.
A man free from labels I was once forced to believe,
Would lead me through a path worthwhile.
Labels like drunk,
Pot head,
And,
Rich!
When all I really was,
Was a child who tripped and fell into a ditch,
Never to be found again until I rose from the dead…
What else was I,
Other than dead inside,
Numbed by fumes I couldn’t hide,
And,
Pools of alcoholic lies I drowned in while held underneath by so called friends of mine?…
Life?
I didn’t have being like everybody else.
But,
Life?
I grasped when choosing what was better for myself.
Letting go of the image everyone had of me reaching for a shelf,
Emptied quicker than the heart of city dwellers seeking buyers for bargain they try so hard to sell,
Without telling you how broken their home is…
What hope is there for the hopeless?…
