An epiphany was had by the time I laid my head back down before going in for my double shifts at work for the weekend:
“What will I ever gain by overworking a voice growing tired of speaking what someone,
Somewhere may need to hear when they’ve grown too weary?”
Rest.
Pacing myself.
Is what I’ve needed more than an open mic almost every day of the week.
Some alone time away from what keeps a pen out of my hand.
Because,
As long as I’m surrounded by others,
I can’t show the same love to myself knowing no one else looks out for my well-being but I.
And,
It isn’t selfish.
How can it be selfish with zero calls,
Zero messages,
Zero ties to anyone in case I’m ever hanging on a ledge by my fingertips?
Maybe,
It’s time to put mics to the side.
Close my eyes,
And,
Face each nightmare still haunting me…
