Anytime my card is pulled, It feels like the Joker is drawn in a game of poker I’ve never agreed to play. Can I trust the smile I see when taking notice of anyone’s face, In a room as dark as the empty voids most carry in a soul where light wanes, More, And, More as each day passes by? A day fading faster into a night, Where demons take charge while angels rest their eyes, As I race against time, To find refuge in a world I truly don’t belong in… All I want to do is love, But, I’m called a ‘Jesus freak’ more often, Than a friend others are fond of, While I write another poem hoping someone smiles instead of getting lost in, A concrete jungle most of us get eaten alive in… But, Silence I must commence, As peace is what I covet, The longer I’m alone in a war against the flesh. Flesh doing its best to convince me to punish myself, By believing the worst in others. At the end of it all, I understand how we’re all hurting inside, In an age where most of us refuse to hug one another, And, Mean it.
