Letting go is the part hardest,
For someone who’s assimilated into darkness.
For someone who can only smile while they can’t see anything ,
Besides the oil they squeeze out onto parchment.
Besides a glass glimmering upon their thousand mile stare,
Caused by friends,
And,
Family they’re left departed…
With a heart hardened by fear they’ve been engulfed by,
How is letting go ever possible?
Fear stemming from trauma as common as each follicle,
Burning out like every lightbulb we’ve overused?
Strands of hair piling up on a comb,
Like bits of your true self being consumed,
The more you brush off the weight on your shoulders.
Weight getting heavier,
And,
Heavier.
Bones fragmented by lengthy urges to ignore pain we confuse for pleasure,
Until each puzzle pjece that makes us whole is sprawled out on a bed as a safety measure,
To keep ourselves from facing who we see in our mirror.
Because…
Collapsing is by far more comfortable.
Easier.
Asleep while in fetal position from a day’s defeat,
Dreaming of victory that had never felt so good at any point in time…
