Can’t Hustle What’s True

Definition of a Hustler:

An enterprising person determined to succeed.
A swindler using fraudulent methods to earn money.
An expert gambler seeking challenges through the unsuspecting for?
You guessed it,
More money.
Or,
Simply,
A prostitute with all eyes on some rich honey…

Some days,
I get confused about how I write and wonder if I’m lying to myself,
And,
Question what kind of hustler I am.
Because,
Being blind to your actions is possible.
And the way I’ve been acting?
Quite comical!
To some,
While I hear them laughing at my pain…
As I wince at the end of my nights…

Am I doing something wrong?
Not working hard enough?
Do I quit my job to sit on a stoop while selling drugs?
Become a Banker while smiling after leaving others in debt for my own fun?
Turn into a politician lying when elections come around to get a vote from,
People just!
Looking for a way out…

A way out of Frustration,
Conundrums and Rejection,
America’s unholy trinity.
A place where you are no longer accepted unless you are mimicking,
Deceit!
Taught by ‘officials’ pivoting greed on our souls,
As we court It in various fashions…

Whether you’re the happy-go-lucky drug dealer on the block,
With a neck full of ice and a wrist full of rocks.
A man in blue with a crooked view who just pretends to be a cop,
Or,
A music executive trying to skate by with a ‘360’ deal!
Until you get bored and high off a pill you are influenced to pop,
The lies of another help me understand what I’m not…

More so,
Just a guy determined to succeed.
With no reason to hustle anyone looking for some peace,
Through a poem,
Like I did!
Every time anyone tried to hustle my inner child and take Him from me…
